To achieve the EA designation, candidates must pass all three parts of the EA exam within 3 years. A valid Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN), renewed within the last year, is also required for exam registration.

The EA exam consists of three parts, each containing 100 multiple-choice questions. The duration for each part is 3.5 hours, with a 15-minute break after completing 50 questions.

Exam results are provided immediately upon the completion of each exam part.
